Abdominal Cerclage
What is an Abdominal Cerclage?
A trans-abdominal cerclage is a small, extremely strong, woven synthetic band stitched high on the cervix, and is used to prevent recurrent pregnancy loss. The band prevents the cervix from opening and losing the pregnancy. Generally, pregnancy success rates are significantly higher with abdominal cerclage than with traditional cerclage. The stitch is placed via robotic surgery under anesthesia, and is permanent. The robotic procedure takes only about two hours and a recovery period of just a few days, Placement of abdominal cerclage requires advanced surgical technique, and Dr Sabella is an expert. He is one of very few surgeons in the country who performs this procedure.
