Dr. Vincenzo Sabella

Dr. Vincenzo Sabella of San Antonio, Texas, has more than 30 years’ experience caring for and treating women for health care issues of all kinds. He specializes in obstetrics, gynecological care, gynecological surgery (including minimally invasive robotic-assisted surgery), infertility, and hormone replacement therapy.

Dr. Sabella is a pioneer in robotic surgery for multiple female pelvic issues, including urinary incontinence, treatment of endometriosis, pelvic floor reconstruction, Trans-abdominal cerclage for recurrent pregnancy losses and many other conditions.

Born in Los Angeles, California and raised mostly in Monterrey Mexico, Dr. Sabella went on to earn his medical degree from the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon in Monterrey, Mexico, in 1981. That is where he also completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology in 1986.

He then moved to San Antonio, Texas, for a research fellowship in reproductive biology at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.  He completed a second residency in obstetrics and gynecology both at the Brooklyn Hospital in New York and the University of Texas in San Antonio, graduating in 1991. From 1991 to 2002 he worked as a professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the UTHSCSA and for the last 5 years of his appointment he became the chief of the division of Gynecology Oncology.

He received his board certification from the American Board of Obstetrics & Gynecology in 1993 and he is a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecologists (ACOG), He is also board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology in Mexico by the Consejo Mexicano de Gynecologia y Obstetricia.

He is fluent in English, Spanish, and Italian.

Lauren Guehl, CNM

I have been a Certified Nurse Midwife since 2007.  I earned a Masters in Nursing in 2007 from Case Western Reserve University, in Cleveland Ohio, and today am both a Certified Nurse-Midwife and a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner.
I initially worked in a birth center in Austin for 3 years, and then moved to San Antonio and have been in private practice for the past 13 years. I initially practiced at St Lukes Baptist Hospital (where Dr. Sabella and I met!), and now exclusively at Methodist Hospital.

From annual exams and birth control to pregnancy and birth and through menopause, I cherish being part of women's lives.  I specialize in the care of low-risk women primarily in their childbearing years.

Working both in and out of hospital has given me an enormous respect for childbirth, and taught me how to recognize when labor is progressing normally and no intervention is needed, and how to recognize when things aren’t going smoothly. Part of being a good provider is understanding when to be ‘hands off’ and just let things happen naturally, and when to jump in with the appropriate intervention.

My son, Henry, is the greatest joy of my life! We like camping, traveling, and playing with our beagle, Bruno.

I am excited about joining Sabella Women’s Health.  It will be a great blend of midwifery care and traditional OBGYN care, with the comfort and collaboration of a small, family owned practice.
